"...tribute paying lords [previous photo] speaking energetically among themselves approach a royal family assembled on a large throne [probably Chan Muan and his wife, the mother of the heir and sister of Shield Jaguar of Yaxchilan]...A bundle to the right of the throne bears a few glyphs that identify the contents as five 8,000-bean counts of cacao -- a substantial tax payment or tribute in a world where cacao was a highly prized commodity, and standard means of exchange."
